Matt Johnson represents individuals, businesses, and governmental entities at the trial and appellate levels in the state and federal courts of South Carolina. Matt’s practice includes the defense of small businesses in construction defect, premises liability, and professional negligence claims. He also represents state agencies, municipalities, and governmental employees in tort and federal civil rights litigation. Additionally, Matt has handled personal injury, business disputes, landlord/tenant disputes, and products liability matters. Before practicing law, Matt served as the law clerk for the Honorable Joseph A. Portelli, JSC, of the New Jersey Superior Court.
Outside of his practice, Matt is involved in the legal profession and his community. A 2015 graduate of the South Carolina Bar Leadership Academy, he has chaired the Bar’s Torts and Insurance Practices Section. Matt recently served as the President of the Rotary Club of Charleston-Breakfast and has been a member of its Board of Directors since 2014. Matt is also involved in leadership positions in his local Cub Scout Pack and church.
